Most people who follow the sport of football believe that the first ever Women's World Cup was held in 1991 and won by the United States in China. However, this documentary, comprised of both crisp archival footage and present-day interviews, uncovers a forgotten tournament held in Mexico in 1971. Taking place in two of Mexico's biggest stadiums, attended by tens of thousands of supporters and televised on national programming, this World Cup had to mark itself as "unofficial" due to the disinterest and lack of support from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). With countries such as England, Denmark and Argentina participating, the footage here reclaims history in favour of the women who were the pioneers of the world's most popular sport.
