Adapted from the enormously successful Broadway musical about origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West, this fantasy adventure takes somewhere over the rainbow in the magical Land of Oz. A studious young woman called Elphaba arrives at Shiz University and is immediately cast as different because of her unusual green skin. Her new roommate is Glinda, a spoilt rich girl who is obsessed with popularity. The two students don't get off to the best start, but they eventually form an unlikely friendship. Elphaba's determination to stand up against injustice and her extraordinary magical powers catch the attention of her professors, who send her to meet the almighty Wizard of Oz. But the Emerald City holds unexpected secrets, and a course is set for these iconic characters to fulfil their destinies. This first instalment of a two-part epic includes the much-loved soaring songs from the stage version.
