1967 was supposedly the Summer of Love, but for most people - including many young people - the hippie movement meant nothing. This is the story of one of them, the ironically named Joy who is trapped in a miserable, claustrophobic life from which escape seems impossible. This was the first film by director Ken Loach to get a cinema release after some influential TV work, and it is a brutal and powerful look at a pre-feminist world.
This film has a few uses of mild bad language and contains moderate sex references.
