Although there are certainly horror elements in Oscar Wilde's classic novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray, they are cranked up in this movie adaptation. But the story itself is faithfully told: Dorian Gray, a handsome young Victorian gentleman, looks mysteriously untouched by the passing time. Could this have something to do with a strange, hidden painting of him? But if Dorian's face hasn't been corrupted by the years, his soul has, and his behaviour gets more and more twisted. Director Oliver Parker shows that Wilde's famously quotable dialogue can co-exist happily with state-of-the-art special effects.
Beautiful account of John Merrick, a man with a severe physical deformity rescued from a cruel circus sideshow in Victorian London.
