Cuba's jazz music scene of the 1940s and 1950s provides a vibrant starting point for this grown-up, animated tale of love and loss. Combining flowing, highly-stylized visuals and sensational Latin rhythms, the drama focuses on the poignant, decades-spanning romance between young Havana jazz pianist Chico and beautiful nightclub singer, Rita. Yet while their musical passion initially draws them together, their fiery temperaments quickly drive them apart, resulting in Rita heading off to America to find fame and fortune. It's a serious blow to Chico, who's determined to win back his girl. But as he follows her to the bright lights of New York, his attempts at reconciliation only bring more heartache.
This film contains brief strong sexual scenes and nudity.
