Grumpy lawyer Mike Flaherty is a source of concern for his despairing wife and young daughters. His work/life balance problems are exacerbated by his other commitment: coaching the local high school's failing wrestling team. Flaherty's humdrum existence perks up, however, with the arrival on the scene of promising teenager Kyle. But when Kyle's estranged mother suddenly appears, apparently seeking reconciliation, everything is thrown into jeopardy. Director Thomas McCarthy revisits the theme of unlikely friendships from his previous films, The Station Agent and The Visitor, but this time he also takes a look at how ordinary families cope with financial hardship.
Utterly lovely and unique film about friendships forming in the most unlikely of circumstances.
