In A Better Life we meet Carlos, a Mexican gardener, who is struggling to raise his 14 year-old son, Luis, in a tough Los Angeles neighbourhood. Living in constant fear of deportation, and with Luis being drawn into a life of gangs and crime, Carlos tries to be the best father he can. He sleeps on the couch so Luis can have the bed and continues to tend to the lawns and palm trees of his wealthy clients. This gritty examination of life on the bottom rung of American society is a far cry from director Chris Weitz’s previous film, Twilight: New Moon, and features outstanding performances from its lead actors.
Contains moderate and strong language, moderate violence and drug use.
