On the surface, Dr Robert Ledgard appears to be a well-respected and wealthy professional, but he is actually a mad scientist, determined to invent an indestructible synthetic skin. Clearly suffering a troubled past, Dr Ledgard is comically overbearing to the women in his life - especially the one held captive in his isolated mansion. Directed by renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, this is a stylish labyrinth of obsession, family secrets and identity that harks back to the great melodramas of the 1940s and 1950s.
