Cancer and jokes are understandably not common bedfellows in cinema - but can this comedy-drama strike an inoffensive balance against all odds? Young and athletic radio-worker Adam should be the picture of health - but a sudden diagnosis of spine cancer lands him with a sobering quantification of his survival chances - 50/50. A turbulent journey from aching disbelief to bullish defiance begins. Propping him up every step of the way is endearingly vulgar best friend Kyle. Whilst this playful ‘bromance’ secures the giggles, it's all on Gordon-Levitt to authentically communicate the agonies of Adam’s predicament and ultimately justify the film. True to his burgeoning reputation as an actor of A-list quality, he does so with remarkable gravitas.
Contains strong language, once very strong, strong sex and sex references.
