Synopsis

During the 1979 Iranian Revolution, militants stormed the US embassy in Tehran, taking 52 American citizens hostage. They would remain in captivity for over a year, but six workers sneaked out the back... The challenge of getting these fugitives out of the country falls to CIA 'exfiltration' expert Tony Mendez, whose 'best bad idea' is to pretend that they're the Canadian crew of a non-existent sci-fi movie. If this sounds like a bit of a farce, then you might be surprised to hear that it's based on a true story! Argo is a tense and surprisingly funny thriller, and although set more than 30 years ago, it deals with political tensions still relevant today.
