In the summer of 1922, World War I veteran Nick Carraway moves to New York and rents a cottage next to the lavish mansion owned by the enigmatic Gatsby, a rich businessman known for hosting extravagant parties. During dinner with his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom, Nick is introduced to another guest, Jordan Baker, with Daisy trying to play matchmaker. After receiving an invitation to one of Gatsby’s parties, Nick finally meets the mysterious host and learns about his past from Jordan: shortly before the war, Gatsby and Daisy began a relationship. Gatsby continues to throw parties in the hope that she will attend as he remains in love with her. One day, she does, leading to a romantic reunion between the duo. But with Daisy’s volatile husband Tom – who is having an affair of his own – becoming suspicious, will the opportunity for a happy ending ever present itself? Baz Luhrmann’s stylish adaptation of F. Scott’s Fitzgerald’s classic novel features a contemporary soundtrack with contributors including Jay-Z, Lana Del Rey, will.i.am, and Beyoncé.
