Synopsis

It may be virtually dialogue-free, but this nail-biting, man versus nature tale will keep you on the edge of your seat. Centring on a powerful performance from Hollywood legend Robert Redford, the hugely atmospheric action thriller sees his unnamed character alone aboard his 39-foot yacht in the middle of the Indian Ocean when terrible disaster strikes. A stray cargo ship container has perforated his vessel, filling the cabin with water and taking out the navigation and communication equipment. As the experienced mariner sails unsuspectingly into a violent storm, he must rely on his strength, ingenuity and nautical knowledge to survive. However, the longer he’s lost at sea, the worse his problems get, leaving him facing his own mortality.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
