Marvel boldly expands its cinematic universe with this visually opulent superhero bonanza. In deepest space, pilot Peter Quill becomes the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb from the evil Kree radical, Ronan. To evade his clutches, Quill is forced into an unlikely alliance with a disparate group of misfits, who come together to form the Guardians of the Galaxy and save the world. With bounty hunting raccoons and tree-like humanoids among its characters, this is one of the more unusual comic adaptations of recent years, delivering on laughs as much as spectacle. The refreshingly light-hearted tone contrasts with the increasingly dark introspection that has characterised recent films in the ever-expanding genre.
Moderate fantasy action violence, threat, moderate bad language.
