Suffering grief, shock and the heavy responsibility of preserving her husband’s legacy, this is a compellingly raw and conflicted portrait of First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the days and weeks following the assassination of her husband President John F Kennedy. Unflinching and not always sympathetic, the film flashes back and forth between the shocking events of that day, her life earlier in the White House and the period leading up to and after his funeral. Inviting a reporter to her home only weeks afterwards, she attempts to use the interview as a way to communicate to the American people who her husband was and what he should be remembered for. Revolving around a thrilling performance by Natalie Portman as Jackie, an affecting soundtrack and gorgeous period styling, this is a heartbreaking depiction of a woman whose life has been defined by her public image struggling to come to terms with her grief.
This film is based on the assassination over 45 years ago of US president John F Kennedy, and the conspiracy theories many are still obsessed with.
