Synopsis

A mysterious disease has killed 98% of American teenagers, with the 2% of survivors developing powerful abilities feared by adults. Ruby wakes up on her tenth birthday to her parents not recognising her and calling the police, sending her to a brutal government-run camp where young people are locked away and labeled by colours that correspond with their power. Ruby’s power is one thought to be too dangerous for the camps, so when the truth is revealed she quickly escapes from her captors and joins a group of runaways. With the government and other groups hoping to use them as weapons, they must use their collective powers to fight against the adults who are planning to take away their future. This thrilling dystopian sci-fi imagines what the world would look like if young people revolted, adapted from the young adult novel.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
