Synopsis

Leah is a young white vlogger from a rich London family who is searching for something to inspire her creativity and when she bumps into Benji whilst filming on the streets of Brixton, sparks fly almost immediately. Reserved and bookish, Benji comes from a Caribbean background and whilst he spends his days keeping his friend Arch out of trouble, he is also looking for a way out of the confines of his estate, which is overrun by gang warfare. After Leah decides to make Benji and his life the subject of her new documentary, the pair grow romantically closer and their worlds begin to overlap in increasingly dangerous and complicated ways. A Brixton Story approaches the complex themes of class and race disparity in urban Britain with tenderness and much thought, raising questions about privilege and the dangers of cultural appropriation.
