Synopsis

Although homosexuality is not illegal in Egypt, LGBTQ+ people face constant threat from authorities, including imprisonment and other human rights abuses. This animated short documentary is a portrait of life in Cairo as narrated by a young gay rights activist. During a conversation with a friend, he relives the traumatic events that led to his activism and explores the inner conflicts he has about his future in his country. ‘Half a Life’ is an unflinching and urgent documentary about the need to fight for LGBTQ+ rights around the world.

Please note: this film contains mature themes and distressing scenes, including one scene of sexual violence.
