Synopsis

Extracted from the archive documentary Living Proof, which explores the roots and resistance to the climate crisis in Scotland’s post-war history. This extract follows the demonstrations that took place in May 1979 on Torness Point, in protest of a new nuclear station. Thousands gathered peacefully, using creative means, to oppose the industrial system and nuclear expansion in the British countryside. Featuring speeches and interviews from protesters and supporters such as Robin Cook, MP for central Edinburgh at the time, the film offers valuable insight into British activism and the dangers of nuclear power.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
