Synopsis

This documentary takes a personal look at the lives of young people living in a North London borough that is often branded as notorious by mainstream media. Episode 1 follows 21-year-old King George, giddy with love and entrepreneurial ideas. But living in a hostel hasn’t been easy, after his family rejected him because of his sexuality. In Episode 2, Amira is following in her brother’s footsteps managing music talent. With her brother now in prison, she is determined to exceed society’s expectations. It seems like around every street corner there’s a palpable threat of senseless violence, but Tottenham and Wood Green are also bursting with young creative people who are passionate about supporting their community. Through Amira, King and so many more inspiring individuals we see that lives are not defined by crime statistics, but by their hopes, desires, talent and personal relationships.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
