Cost of Living (dir: n/a, 2022, 16 mins)
This short film explores historical moments of rising costs, austerity, and poverty in the UK, reflecting on today’s economic insecurity being experienced by many. Accompanied by archive footage filmed between the 1940s and the 1980s, the narration explores how difficult living conditions, insufficient jobs and rising prices affect every area of people’s lives.
Rocks (dir: Sarah Gavron, 2019, 91 mins)
Shola, known as Rocks to her friends, lives in a London council flat with her single mother and younger brother Emmanuel, barely scraping by. Her mother suddenly leaves home, abandoning Rocks and Emmanuel to fend for themselves. Despite this sudden and desperate situation, Rocks is a charming, high energy film that celebrates youth, optimism, diversity and friendship, following a young girl’s quest for survival whilst in the throes of adolescence.
