Synopsis

When renowned Spanish chef José Andrés saw the destruction caused by the Haiti earthquakes in 2010, he resolved to help the people there the only way he knew how – by making sure they had enough food to keep them from going hungry. Following the operation’s success, he founded the World Central Kitchen, a not-for-profit organisation devoted to providing communities with meals in the wake of natural disasters. Determined and energetic, chef José’s organisation becomes a godsend for devastated communities around the world, but he is nevertheless faced with insurmountable problems. The difficulty of balancing a family life and the political bureaucracy that comes with operating on such a large-scale force José into making difficult decisions to make sure nobody is left hungry. This pulsating and inspiring documentary showcases the importance of philanthropy and the strength of the human spirit as well as the multitude of ways food can enrich and stabilise a community.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
