Synopsis

An experimental short film with horror elements, Prelude tells the story of a man who falls asleep in a very comfy chair whilst listening to Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor and reading Edgar Allen Poe’s The Premature Burial. Under these spooky circumstances in his atmospheric sitting room, the man dreams of himself being buried alive by a group of shadowy figures, only to then wake up with a relieved look on his face. However, is his nightmare truly over? Packed with unique film techniques to conjure visions of hallucinations and terror, this silent archive short is a useful and entertaining example of early genre film.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
