Stimming refers to a repetitive movement that some autistic people do for enjoyment, to stimulate sensation or to self-soothe in stressful situations. Along with masking, it’s behaviour that is not always understood or recognised, yet connects with expression and identity. The Neurocultures Collective are a group of creatives who are looking to “skip the test, drop the mask, reclaim the space”. In their feature debut, they exhibit a series of sometimes fantastical stories involving neurodiverse characters, both real and imagined, including a B-Movie film club host, a young woman taking part in a diagnostic test, an office worker masking their autistic nature, and an enigmatic dog spirit. Through these tales, which are often funny and insightful, they invite neurotypical viewers to perceive the world from a new vantage point whilst also offering a mirror that neurodiverse and autistic may be able to finally see themselves reflected in.
infrequent strong language, brief moderate violence, bloody images
