Synopsis

In the Southside Reef, a lowly fish named Oscar fantasises about being rich and famous but owes money to his boss, a pufferfish named Sykes. Meanwhile, mob boss Don Lino – who heads up a gang of fearsome sharks, orcas, swordfish, and octopuses – is unhappy with his son Lenny being a vegetarian, and tasks Lenny’s brother, Frankie, with mentoring him. After Oscar loses his remaining cash after betting it on a seahorse race which he believed was rigged, Sykes is furious and orders two jellyfish enforcers to deal with him. When the two sharks stumble upon the scene, Frankie encourages Lenny to eat Oscar and make their father proud, but Lenny instead frees Oscar and tells him to escape. When Frankie is killed by a wayward anchor in the aftermath and no witnesses to argue otherwise, Oscar takes credit for the killing and gains a reputation as the “Sharkslayer”. ‘Shark Tale’ is a lively animation which explores themes such as identity, friendship, and community.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
