Synopsis

The Night of the Hunter features one of the all-time great villains in the terrible form of Harry Powell - an ex-con disguised as a preacher, with the words "Love" and "Hate" tattooed on his knuckles. Serving time in prison, Powell has learned of a stash of money hidden by his cellmate - the location known only to that cellmate's young children. So when Powell is released, he tracks the kids down in the hope of making them spill the secret. But sensing that he is not all he seems, the children flee - and what results is a darkly brilliant tale of ever-present danger.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
