While the British smash hit Bend It Like Beckham concerned a young girl from London who wanted to play football despite her Indian parents' disapproval, the fantastic Iranian comedy Offside shows football-crazy girls with an even more serious problem. Because in Iran, girls and women aren't even allowed to watch the game - which means that when a vital World Cup qualifying match is due to take place in Tehran, one girl who is determined to attend has to try every trick possible to get within sight of the pitch. The result is warm and original film which also an important message about Iranian society's treatment of girls.
In Persian and Farsi, subtitles in English.
