Synopsis

Feisty 19th-century heroine Becky Sharp is an irrepressible opportunist. A poor orphan turned social climber, she's constantly searching for ways to improve her standing. During an era when class status means everything, Becky manipulates hearts without conscience, attempting to get hitched to her genteel best friend's brother before marrying into the respectable Crawley clan and finally finding a wealthy patron in the Marquess of Steyne. Adapted from the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, this fresh and frothy confection is well acted and witty, with handsome visuals enriched by a dash of Hollywood colour.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
