Forever associated with the phrase "We are not amused," Queen Victoria is often thought of as a stern, unemotional figure. But behind that image lay a woman who was deeply grief-stricken after the death of her husband, Prince Albert in 1861. In the wake of his passing, Albert's gruff Scottish manservant John Brown was summoned to court to help Victoria adjust to life without her partner - and as the months pass, the pair develop a relationship so close that it set rumours flying. This is an engrossing drama that provides an intimate insight into a mysterious woman and highlights ongoing debates around class and privilege in Britain.
