Synopsis

One of the first real horror movies, Freaks is still disturbing and highly controversial almost a century later. Set in a circus, it focuses on the "freaks" - disfigured individuals who make a living displaying themselves for others to gawp at. Their number includes the bearded lady, the half boy and Hans, a midget who is due to inherit a lot of money. When gold-digging trapeze artist Cleopatra sets out to marry Hans, and then poison him, his friends discover her plot and decide to take a dastardly revenge of their own.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
