Synopsis

Sometimes a film doesn't have to do anything spectacular to be great. Take The Last Picture Show - an atmospheric look at life and the messy nature of being friends in a small, dusty Texas town at the start of the 1950s. Sonny and Duane are in their last year at school. They both fall in and out of love with the same upper-class girl, get a sense of how tough life is going to be - and go to last movie shown the small local cinema. None of which might sound action-packed - but which up on screen is enthralling.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
