It is 1997. Princess Diana has been killed in a car crash in Paris and thousands of people are on the streets of the UK, devastated at the nation's loss. The new Prime Minister, Tony Blair, judges the mood of the crowds perfectly - but the Queen doesn't. Based partly on interviews with people who worked with the most important people in this country, this subtle drama imagines what happened in private during those extraordinary weeks. Most of all it focuses on Queen Elizabeth, who had to decide whether to trust her own instincts about the right way to behave at a moment that was unprecedented in modern history.
