A splendidly sinister and claustrophobic drama that turns the British class system upside down. Upper-class Tony is all too happy to leave the running of his life to his new servant, Barrett. This gives Barrett the chance to take control, leading eventually to a strange, nightmarish situation in Tony's house. Director Joseph Losey - an American in exile from anti-Communist hysteria - and great British playwright Harold Pinter collaborated on what is one of the most important and engrossing British films of the 1960s.
Made in 1961, when homosexuality was still illegal in Britain, this drama sees a gay lawyer fighting against a blackmailer targeting gay London men.
