Synopsis

Director Spike Lee, famous for being a vocal, season ticket-holding fan of the New York Knicks basketball team, combines his two passions with this gripping film about basketball, families, crime, guilt and, possibly, salvation. Denzel Washington, who starred in Spike Lee's great biopic of Malcolm X, plays Jake, a jailbird who gets a chance of an early release from prison. The only catch is that he has to persuade his teenage son, a talented basketball player who he has hardly seen for years, to agree to attend the college where Jake's prison warden went in his youth.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
