Girl, Interrupted is a powerful drama based on the true-life experiences of writer Susanna Kaysen, here played by Winona Ryder. Kaysen checks herself into a mental health institution after an overdose, spending the next 18 months dealing with her condition (she is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder) and the confusing day-to-day life of the hospital itself. Angelina Jolie won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role as a rebellious patient, much in the mould of Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, continually at war with a society that wishes to contain her wild, free spirit.
This film has several uses of strong bad language, occasional horror and sexual references.
