Fernando Meirelles, who co-directed 2002's Brazilian drama City of God, is one of the producers of this exciting, gritty drama. Although more of a companion piece rather than sequel to that film, it is also shares the favela setting and deals with many of the same themes of poverty, violence, and drugs. Two teenagers, Acerola and Laranjinha, have grown up together and as a result are closer than brothers. However, when they become embroiled in a turf war that erupts in the favela, divided loyalties threaten to turn them into enemies.
