Synopsis

In an unnamed Midlands town, a bunch of aimless youngsters are offered the chance to do something different with their lives when Darcy, recently returned to his old stomping ground, resolves to re-open the boxing club that had offered him a way out of misery in his own youth. There's no miracle transformation in this bittersweet, funny, occasionally violent, yet always well-observed drama. Director Shane Meadows realistically traces the effects of a positive, galvanising force on blighted lives.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
