Synopsis

Director Françoise Truffaut's fascinating period drama is based on a real case documented in late 18th-century France. A wild, naked boy, who cannot walk upright or speak, is captured in a forest by hunters. He is taken to a home for the deaf and dumb run by Doctor Itard, who names the boy Victor, and tries to teach him the skills he needs to survive in the civilised world. But is that really the best thing for the boy?

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
