Taking place in 2021, My Place was an inter-generational Into Film project, funded by Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, and undertaken by ten young people across Northern Ireland, who worked with interview footage from nine different interviews conducted with care home residents living at Abbeylands Care Home, Newtownabbey.
The interviews were edited by the young people - with the help of local film maker Michael MacBroom - to include clips taken from Northern Ireland Screen's Digital Film Archive. The aim was to enhance and add context to the interviews.
Topics covered in the films range widely, from first jobs, to dancehalls, to meeting ‘the one'. The final collection of videos are both heart-warming and entertaining, and have something to offer everyone. We are delighted to share them with you now.

The project took place in early 2021, which meant that both the interviewees within Abbeylands Care Home and the young people from across Northern Ireland were unable to meet personally or interact face-to-face due to COVID-19 restrictions. The completed films are a fantastic example of what can be achieved remotely, under difficult circumstances.
Here's what some of the young people involved had to say:
