In celebration of National Careers Week (March 4-9), we're delighted to announce the appointment of Amma Asante, MBE, as a new Into Film Ambassador, and our new Careers Patron.
Amma Asante is a multi-award-winning writer and director, who won a BAFTA for her first film, A Way of Life, and has won multiple awards for her subsequent films Belle and A United Kingdom. She joins a prestigious line-up of Into Film Ambassadors, including BAFTA-winning actors Lashana Lynch and Jack Lowden, Lucasfilm CEO Lynwen Brennan, and multi-award-winning writer, director and actor Sir Kenneth Branagh, to name but a few.
Amma Asante was the first Black director to win a BAFTA award for writing and directing a feature film, and was recently listed in the Top 100 most influential people in the UK of African/African-Caribbean descent. She is currently directing a TV adaptation of the book, Smilla's Sense of Snow.
Amma has worked with us at Into Film since 2015, supporting our fundraising efforts at ICAP Charity Day and acting as a regular presenter at the Into Film Awards. Amma's film A United Kingdom is available to stream with Into Film+, our streaming service for schools, and she will also be featured in an upcoming film studies teaching resource celebrating Black British filmmakers.
Into Film CEO, Paul Reeve, said: "Amma has been a great friend of Into Film for many years and a wonderful role model for young people embarking on their journeys into film. We're thrilled that she's now joining us as an Industry Ambassador, supporting in particular our programme to inspire and inform young people about screen careers. Amma knows from her own experience as a renowned filmmaker how important this work is in laying foundations for the development of a dynamic and diverse future industry workforce."
As part of National Careers Week, we're hosting several screen industry careers events across the UK, aimed at careers educators and their students, with support from the BFI, awarding National Lottery Funding. Find out more about these events below, where you can also register to join them online, completely free, from anywhere in the UK.
