Javed is a British-Pakistani teenager in his last year of college. Fed up of living in Luton with his parents, particularly his frugal and strict father, he spends his spare time writing poetry inspired by his frustration.
When a new friend introduces him to the music of American singer Bruce Springsteen, Javed identifies strongly with the lyrics, the songs giving him the confidence he needs to carve his own path outside of his family home and his hometown. Set in 1987, a turbulent time in the UK which included austerity and racism towards migrant communities, Javed must also navigate the realities of being a British person of colour. This is an uplifting musical comedy with key themes around community, growing up and cultural differences.
