Our featured new-in-cinema title this week is Crazy Rich Asians, a romantic comedy adapted from Kevin Kwan's popular American book of the same name.
Rachel Chu is a professor who is invited by her new boyfriend Nick Chun on a trip to Singapore for his best friend's wedding. On the trip, Nick's secret is revealed - that he and his family are extremely wealthy - and Rachel is met with a new lifestyle and the task of impressing his over-protective mother. This humorous film explores topics such as family and class with an all-Asian cast.
Also in cinemas is captivating drama The Rider, about a young cowboy and talented rodeo contender who is faced with a life-changing head injury, forcing him to alter his lifestyle and reflect on his identity. The film follows his attempts to resume his life, while facing concerns from doctors and obstacles along the way that challenge his wellbeing and mental health.
A mysterious flower sends a young girl on a magical journey in Mary and the Witch's Flower, a gentle animated tale by some of the creators behind Studio Ghibli; veterans share their stories of operating iconic aircraft in World War II documentary Spitfire; A high-school student becomes fed-up with the popular girls in school and teams up with a sociopathic boy to kill them in the classic 1980s dark comedy Heathers, which is re-released in cinemas this week; and in a world under the spell of an evil sorceror, a young boy embarks on a mission to restore happiness to the realm in A Wizard's Tale.
