Focussed on helping you develop your students and club members' literacy skills; this free online course sees us partnering with Tate Britain to take you on an inspiring journey from still image to film. Below, Paul Stapley, Into Film's Resources, Training and Online Coordinator (Learning), explains more.

Drawing upon art works from the Tate's collection for inspiration and as creative stimuli, Developing Literacy: A Journey from Still Image to Film will help you approach literacy teaching from a unique visual angle that can inspire pupils of all abilities.
With its cross-curricular approach, this course provides an inspiring learning opportunity for teachers and a fresh way to engage pupils in their reading and writing.
You'll be introduced to a host of simple but effective activities, all of which use a range of moving and still imagery as a springboard to produce a variety of literacy work. From creating poetry and extended writing, to producing short films and animations, the activities are designed for flexible re-delivery in the classroom and other educational settings.
As a participant on the course, you'll be able to access a range of downloadable resources and worksheets, with literacy outcomes that are fully in line with the National Curriculum. And if the prospect of filmmaking sounds a little bit daunting, don't worry - there's step-by-step guidance to help you on your way. Not to mention the online community of teachers with whom you can share and receive advice.
As well as striving to support outstanding literacy opportunities in the classroom, we've also been able to connect this online course to one of Tate's big projects of 2019: the Tate Year 3 Project.
Tate Year 3 Project
The Tate Year 3 Project with Turner Prize and Oscar®-winning artist and film director, Steve McQueen, is a major new artwork, which will culminate in one of the most ambitious schools projects that London has ever seen.
Tate are inviting Year 3 pupils from every Year 3 class across London to take part in the largest group portrait ever made. By taking part, pupils will see themselves in one of the most compelling British artworks of modern times.
The end result will be an epic picture of our city's pupils and London's rich civic diversity in a unique programme for the capital's seven and eight-year-olds, exploring their hopes and futures in an entirely free-to-access programme focussed on identity, belonging, inclusion and citizenship.
It is this idea of identity and self-understanding that we connect to Developing Literacy: A Journey from Still Image to Film. As well as using imagery and moving image as an approach to improve literacy, moving and still image is interwoven in this course to help our young people self-reflect; encouraging students to think about their hopes, dreams and aspirations.
There's an urgency to reflect on who we are and our future... to have a visual reflection on the people who make this city work. I think it's important and in some ways urgent.
