Bookings to the 2019 Into Film Festival are now open for all educators! Returning for its 7th year from 6-22 November 2019, the Into Film Festival is the world's largest free film festival and offers up an eclectic programme of events, from Q&As and workshops with high profile partners to pupil premieres and screenings of beloved classics.
With 3,000 screenings and 200 special events, this year's Festival has something to offer 5-19 year olds from all backgrounds and corners of the UK.
The Festival will launch this year on 6 November with an ambitious, environmentally themed opening event that spans the UK and is supported by Greenpeace and UNICEF. Simultaneous pupil premieres of new climate change documentary 2040 - which has been cited as the first film aimed at young audiences to offer a hopeful response to youth ‘eco-anxiety' - will take place across 40 locations with a Q&A with director Damon Gameau live streamed to a large number of them.
Stand-out special events elsewhere in the Festival programme include workshops with Film City Futures, Bait Studios and Oxfam; Q&As with Meeting Gorbachev filmmaker Andre Singer, Dirty God lead actor Vicky Knight and A Deal with the Universe director Jason Barker; and many other collaborations with organisations such as CineCity, Framestore, Guide Dogs UK, BBFC, Wee Critters and more.
Other pupil premieres include Biggest Little Farm, Welsh language film Deian a loli, animation Abominable and African super-hero movie Supa Modo, with further highlights including On the Basis of Sex, Wizard of Oz, Apollo 11, Rocketman and Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans.
This year's Festival is comprised of eight strands that can help educators navigate the packed programme:
These topics and themes can be utilised by educators across the curriculum, in subjects such as English, modern foreign languages (MFL), geography, history, PSHE, politics and citizenship.
The Into Film Festival engages youngsters in all aspects of filmmaking, from the popular Festival Review Writing Competition (launching soon), which keeps the Festival experience alive and encourages literacy and critical thinking, to learning about careers in the film industry, with industry experts lifting the lid on a vast range of topics, including VFX, Directing, Screenwriting, Foley Artistry and Sound Design, Prop Making, Costume Design, Audio Description, Copywriting, Film Classification and Acting, to name but a few.
