Congratulations to young filmmaker Benjamin, aged 8, from London, England, whose film Benjamin's Magical Kitchen Birds has won Best Animation - 11 and Under (sponsored by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, UK) at the 2024 Into Film Awards. The award was presented by actor Simon Pegg.
Benjamin's whimsical animation, which you can watch above, imagines what all sorts of regular kitchen items would look like if they were magically transformed into birds.
Benjamin - who has a passion for birdwatching - has always been supported in his filmmaking by his grandad. "Benjamin often stays with his grandad during school holidays and enjoys making animation projects with him", explained Benjamin's father Matthew upon submitting the film. "Benjamin loves birds, so they decided to make an animation converting kitchen items into magical birds."
Sadly, Benjamin's grandad passed away unexpectedly shortly after helping Benjamin complete the film, making this a particularly poignant win. All at Into Film extend our condolences to the family and are pleased to have had a chance to honour such a wonderful filmmaking partnership.
This marks Benjamin's second appearance at the Into Film Awards, having previously been nominated in 2022 at the age of just six for his musical short film The Rocket, also made with the support of his grandad.
