Congratulations to young people aged 11-18 from My Pockets and Youth Aspire Connect in Hull, England, whose film Just Ignore It has won our special Time For Action category (sponsored by Swatch) at the 2024 Into Film Awards. The award was presented by actor Kingsley Ben-Adir.
Our special Time for Action category asked young people to create a film that raises awareness of issues important to them and explores the changes they would like to make in the world, whether big or small; personal or society wide.
Just Ignore It is an accessible yet hard-hitting and honest animation that recounts true stories of racism experienced by young people and their families, and sets out some simple advice and guidance for how we can all help tackle racist behaviour when we encounter it.
"The young people are part of an anti-racist campaign group", explained Peter Snelling of My Pockets. "They wanted to make something that gave a positive message, that empowered people to challenge racism and bring people together. They wanted to make a difference, and the film is full of tips and advice on how to challenge racism both in the classroom and in the wider world. We want teachers, schools, pupils and students to watch the film and make it apart of conversations about racism."
We wanted to show the scale of racism, but also show how small gestures and moments of support can make a real difference.

"We want the film to help people challenge racism, both in school and in wider society", Peter continued. "We wanted to show the big things and the little things that affect people who are victims of racism. To show the scale of racism, but also to show how small gestures and moments of support can make a real difference. Everything described in the film is true and based on actual real life events. We want people to watch the film and then, next time they encounter racism, to remember it and stand up for something better."
As well as their brilliant short film, the group has also written an Anti-Racism Policy for schools that they hope will be adopted in educational settings across Hull, Yorkshire and beyond.
