The magical, singing nanny leads the cinema releases over the festive period in Mary Poppins Returns, 54 years after the original film. After a family tragedy, Mary Poppins' sudden reappearance surprises the Banks household as she aims to help them through a difficult period in their lives in this sugary delight which will entertain the whole family.

Also released in cinemas over the festive period

1985; Bumblebee; Holmes & Watson

A HIV-positive man returns to his Texas hometown for Christmas, hoping to reveal his sexuality to his conservative and religious parents, but instead finds a connection with his younger brother in 1985; after being sent to Earth by Optimus Prime, B-127 strikes up a touching friendship with an 18 year-old girl who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her father in Transformers prequel Bumblebee (released 26 December); and arguably the most prolific character in cinematic history gets yet another makeover, this time in the form of a spoof version of the legendary detective and his sidekick with Holmes & Watson (also released 26 Dec).

New to Order on DVD

BlacKkKlansman

Leading the DVD releases over the festive period is Spike Lee's acclaimed drama BlacKkKlansman which is, remarkably, based on a true story. Ron Stallworth was the first African-American detective in Colorado, and in the early 1970s he was successfully able to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan by using a "white voice" to contact a local KKK leader. This stimulating satire includes many comedic elements while also using tragic footage from recent real-life incidents to highlight the historical and ongoing race issues in the US.

Also new to order this week

Luis & the Aliens

And finally for 2018, Luis & the Aliens sees an 11 year-old American boy befriend three extra-terrestrials who crash-land into his house, with Luis sourcing the items they crave from the shopping channel and the aliens attempting to return the favour by helping him escape his nightmare of attending boarding school in this silly, slapstick animation.
