Congratulations to MENCAP & X-Ray Eye Films from Belfast, whose film My Not So Ordinary Life has been crowned Best Live Action: 13 and Over at the 2017 Into Film Awards.
My Not So Ordinary Life follows a young woman as she explains an ordinary day in the life of someone with autism, charting the ups and downs of her daily experience. A film as entertaining as it is enlightening, this film impressed the judges on a variety of levels.
This film was great fun to watch. The leading lady whose story we followed is charming, witty and engaging. I discovered more about autism from this short film then I knew before... This was an honest story carefully told; and with a positive message about truthfulness and the love of family and friends. Very enjoyable and engaging. Well done!

It feels amazing, it's such a shock to win. It feels great. It was really good to learn everything - all the different aspects that go into making a movie.

The Best Live Action: 13 and Over award was sponsored by Universal Pictures International, and was presented by actor and writer Laurence Rickard.
In the same way as books, film provides access to stories and I think it's really important that young people engage with them, partly because it can inspire them to want to get involved in the industry. The event today has been fantastic - there's a huge amount of enthusiasm and all the nominees seem genuinely happy for each other when they win, which is a great thing.
