On Wednesday 7 July 2021, we were delighted to have post-production sound experts from The Rough Assembly and the UK Post Sound Collective join us for our third live broadcast in partnership with Speakers for Schools. The event was free to attend and available for all UK secondary schools, with a specific focus on KS3-5/S1-6 learners.
The expert panel was led by Steve Little (Supervising Sound Editor), who introduced Rachael Tate (Supervising Dialogue & ADR Editor), Chad Raymond (Sound Designer & Sound FX Editor), Rebecca Heathcote (Foley Editor) and Jo Jackson (Assistant Sound Editor).
Each guest shared their experiences of working in post-production sound in the film and TV industry and the importance of the soundtrack in engaging audiences and conveying story. You can watch a recording of the session over on the Speakers for Schools website.
A fascinating insight into different careers in film sound engineering! The students loved the real examples of actual work shared and the brief explanations of each role.

The session was a huge success, with 61 schools registering and around 1,240 young people attending from across the UK, as well as a number of educators.
"The broadcast enabled the students to develop a greater understanding of the career opportunities available and an understanding of post-production", said Alysha Bourne, a teacher at Crestwood School in Dudley. "This will really help them with their coursework which they are just about the start filming and producing."
"We all had a fantastic time giving so many students from across the UK an introduction into the world of sound editing for Film & TV", said Steve Little (Supervising Sound Editor). "Hopefully we'll be seeing some of them in a few years, recording cars smashing into each other for the next Bond!"
