Ahead of the June 3 release of new biographical drama Race, we're hosting free preview screenings of the film across England, Scotland and Wales, in partnership with the film's distributor Altitude and Cineworld cinemas.

Race depicts the story of Olympic runner Jesse Owens and his decision to compete in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, despite heavy pressure to boycott them. Owens' decision to compete in the face of institutionalised racism within the athletics world - not to mention the racist Nazi ideology which was dominant there at the time - is one of the most remarkable stories in sports history.

The film ties in closely with this term's theme of Respect - Owens strives to gain respect for himself, both personally and within the athletics world, but also serves as a role model, generating wider respect for Black people during a period in which the US still upheld racial segregation. The film makes for a great accompaniment to classes or clubs who are looking at topics like citizenship, history, sport, or politics. We will also have a brand new Race-related resource launching before the screenings take place, which you can use to focus post-screening activities and discussions.

Our preview screenings of Race are taking place simultaneously at 10:00am on Wednesday 25 May 2016, and are entirely free to attend for everyone - be they club members or not - but keep in mind that while the film is rated PG, we would recommend it is only appropriate for those aged 11+.

Numbers are limited, so be sure to book as soon as possible to ensure your club or class are guaranteed tickets. Find further details about the screenings and book your places below:
