Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
The two releases we would like to spotlight this week take different approaches to storytelling. One is focused on a single individual, telling a very personal story based very much in the real world whilst the other is a gigantic blockbuster superhero film that aims to introduce a multitude of new and exciting characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether you like the intimate or the bombastic, the cinema has you covered. And don't forget to check our one of our new film guides too, covering a prehistoric animation for all ages.
Safety is of course at the forefront of everyone's mind right now so make sure to check out the specific guidelines for your local cinema before visiting. Meanwhile, many cinemas have used lockdown as an opportunity to improve and renovate their venues so that we can all enjoy the best possible cinema experience.
This fascinating look at the imagined life of Princess Diana, one of Britain's most famous figures, is a great entryway into the art of the biopic as well as opening up conversations around themes such as fame and mental health. The film is a fictional interpretation of three days in 1991 during the royal family's Christmas celebrations in Sandringham. In this seemingly idyllic setting tension runs high, rumours of affairs and divorce between the royal couple are spreading through the media and Diana, known for her poise, is struggling to keep up appearances. Her inner turmoil manifests in peculiar events and seething interactions with her husband and the Queen, resulting in a decision that will change everything.
Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this new film from award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) strikes a different tone in its approach to the world of superheroes. Taking place across thousands of years and jumping from Earth to space and back again, it tells the story of the Eternals, a race of immortal aliens that have been living on Earth for millennia and have secretly been shaping human civilisation as we know it. When mankind's oldest enemies The Deviants, who were assumed to have been defeated, suddenly reappear, the Eternals must reunite and once again save the planet from extinction. Introducing a new and diverse cast of heroes alongside mature themes such as sexuality being explored, as well as the ethics of being an immortal superhero, Eternals is an intriguing and unique film in the superhero canon.
Our film guides are built to aid educators in the classroom or at home, using a framework of discussion points and activities for young people to consider films in new and invigorating ways. The Croods 2: A New Age is an animated comedy sequel set in a fictional prehistoric world where a family of cave-people stumble upon a mysterious paradise when looking for a new home. Our guide is useful for exploring topics including PSHE Education and History in addition to highlighting themes surrounding family, monsters and friendships.
And if you'd like to go back to where it all began, we also have resources based around the first Croods film as well, exploring the meaning of family and prehistoric history.
Our top picks from each week's new cinema and DVD releases, all in one handy place....
